Australian Native Botanicals: 5 Proven Favourites

This week’s blog takes a quick peek at the abundance of medicinal and edible plants found right here in local surroundings by sharing 5 of our native favourites at the moment.

Firstly, Imaginelle acknowledges the traditional custodians of the land that we live and learn on, allowing us to use the knowledge that has been gathered, stored and shared through the rich heritage of Australian indigenous communities. We acknowledge that we are so lucky to live amongst some of the most amazing and special varieties of plants and flowers and we always strive to treat the local ingredients with the utmost respect and appreciation.

At Imaginelle, we specialise in showcasing Australia’s incredible flora and its natural healing properties, keeping in line with our ethos and values of sustainability and organics. So, here are our 5 current favourite Australian native ingredients that are nutrient-rich, non-toxic and have been proven to give desired results.

  • Wattleseed - Acacia victoriae

    • Rich in phenolic acids, which have been shown to work as a humectant, locking in moisture and increasing the skin’s water content. Wattleseed’s gallic acid is also shown to be greatly hydrating for the skin and soothing. We love to see wattleseed in balms, shampoos and face creams.

  • Dumburumba (Native Sandalwood)

    • Holds the ability to soothe itchy, sore and irritated skin.  Rich in Omega 3, 6 and 9 Dumburumba is powerful enough for targeting skin tone, signs of ageing, blemishes and boosting hydration. We love to see it in everything from hair and scalp products to face and body.

  • Native Kelp- Durvillea potatorum

    • A great source of vitamin K and A, Native kelp can be used as an anti-inflammatory to reduce redness and irritation, in connection to skin conditions such as eczema, acne and rosacea. Kelp also has the ability to deeply penetrate the skin and remove toxins associated with environmental stresses.

  • Emu Bush - Eremophila longifolia

    • Emu Bush extract is wonderful for anti-aging and firming of the face and body. Provides hydration to the face, such as under the eye. Has great potential for acne care, combating signs of ageing and after sun effects.

  • Rosella Flower - Hibiscus sabdariffa

    • Rosella oil is known to help increase cell turnover and hydrate the skin. Improves even complexion and is extremely rich in antioxidants. Used in hair oils when combating frizz and dryness. Rosella extract can be used in face serums and oils.

Imaginelle acknowledges the importance of not only honouring the traditional plants for their medicinal qualities, but also the spiritual connections to the surrounding cultures, the land and the first nations people of Australia.
